Ray Davies was born on June 21, 1944 in Muswell Hill, just north of London. As the front man and lead songwriter of the Kinks, Davies helped lead the British invasion of American pop music. He went on to become a highly literate commentator through music of social issues and was a pioneer in creating album operas. The Kinks' influence has grown over the years, with an increasing number of young musicians citing them as an important influence.
